To reduce the exposure of staff, offenders, children who reside in corrective services facilities and visitors to environmental tobacco smoke.
'enclosed area' - means an area having a ceiling or roof and, except for doors and passageways, completely or substantially enclosed, whether permanently or temporarily, but does not include an area substantially enclosed by mesh or other non-solid material.
'nominated smoking place' - means an area clearly marked by means of a sign or signs indicating the area is a smoking area.
'secure facility' - refer Corrective Services Act 2006 Schedule 4.
'smoking' - means the use of tobacco and other smoking products.

The success of this procedure depends upon the good will, consideration and co-operation of smokers and non-smokers alike. Staff and offenders share in the responsibility of adhering to the policy and enforcing this procedure.
Each workplace health and safety committee must address smoking issues in order to develop strategies that will ensure workplace compliance.

Children who reside in a corrective services facility and children who visit a facility must not be located within four (4) metres of a nominated smoking area inside a corrective services facility.
The general manager of a corrective services facilities that houses children must ensure that their facility's local anti-smoking procedure sets out a process to ensure that children are not permitted within four (4) metres of a nominate smoking place.

Subject to section 3, the general manager of a corrective services facility must develop a local procedure which details the nominated smoking areas of the facility. The local anti-smoking procedure should be developed in consultation with employees (refer procedure - Workplace Health and Safety (in-confidence) Committees (in-confidence)). The general manager of each facility must review their facility's local procedure every 12 months and consider where reductions in the number of nominated smoking areas can occur.
Adequate facilities must be provided for the disposal of used smoking products in a nominated smoking area.
