Located on the outskirts of Ipswich, Borallon Correctional Centre opened in 1990 as a privately operated prison, housing 492 high security prisoners. Serco Australia Pty Ltd managed and operated the centre for QCS from January 2008.
Borallon is scheduled to be decommissioned in early 2012, in conjunction with the opening of the new Southern Queensland Correctional Centre.
Industries and prisoner employment opportunities at the centre have included a metal fabrication workshop, manufacturing metal farm gates and fences, panels and trolleys.
Visitors please note: The final date for visits to prisoners at Borallon will be Sunday 22 January 2012.
