Getting there by car or public transport

Lotus Glen Correctional Centre

The Lotus Glen Correctional Centre is located 14kms outside Mareeba.

From Cairns, travel along the Captain Cook Highway to Smithfield, and then another 61kms along the Kennedy Highway from Smithfield to Mareeba.

There are two ways to reach the centre from Mareeba - either take the Kennedy Highway to Walkamin, turn right into Hansen Road and drive 6kms to the farm. The centre is located a further 4.8kms away along Chettle Road. You can also travel from Mareeba along Dimbulah Road for 16kms, turn left into Chettle Road and follow the signs.

Numinbah Correctional Centre

Take Exit 69 (the Surfers Paradise/Nerang North exit) off the Pacific Motorway and turn right at the Price Street intersection (this road will become Nerang-Murwillumbah Road). Travel along this road for about 30kms, following the signs to Natural Bridge. Drive through the Numinbah township, cross the narrow bridge over Nixon's Creek, and turn right into the centre. The visits area is located on the right.

A visitor transport service is available for visitors. The service is free of charge. Bookings are essential on 1800 334 379. The service runs every Sunday, departing from Roma Street in Brisbane. Bookings for transport are taken on Tuesday - Friday 10:00am to 2:00pm (excluding public holidays). This is a voluntary service and donations are gratefully accepted.

Southern Queensland Correctional Centre (SQCC)

Located at Millers Road, Spring Creek 4343 (north of Gatton)

From Brisbane:

Follow the Ipswich Motorway west until you come to the turn off to the Warrego Highway at Riverview.

Follow the Warrego Highway, travelling approximately 55km west towards Toowoomba (around 40 minutes travelling time).

Take the "Gatton, Esk, Warwick", turn-off to the left.

Turn right at the roundabout (3rd exit), going over the Gatton bypass bridge, then turn left (1st exit) at the next roundabout, onto the Gatton-Esk Road.

Follow the Gatton-Esk Road for approximately 8 kilometres, turning left into Millers Road. Follow Millers Road until you reach the intersection. Turn right and drive approximately 2 kilometres to SQCC visitor's car park entry on the right.

From Toowoomba:

Follow the Warrego Highway down the range for a distance of approximately 40km (around 30 minutes travelling time). At the Gatton Bypass bridge turn left, then take the Gatton-Esk Road turn-off (2nd exit) at the roundabout.

Follow the Gatton-Esk Road for approximately 8 kilometres, turning left into Millers Road. Follow Millers Road until you reach the intersection. Turn right and drive approximately 2 kilometres to SQCC visitor's car park entry on the right.

Booking times for Prison Transport Group are Tuesday to Friday between 10:00am and 2:00pm on telephone 1800 334 379. Mobility service can be accommodated if required.

Woodford Correctional Centre

The Woodford Correctional Centre is located approximately 3 kilometres from the town of Woodford, near Caboolture.

From Brisbane, follow the Bruce Highway north to the Kilcoy exit Number 152. Take the Kilcoy exit and follow the D'Aguilar Highway through to the township of Woodford. Travel through Woodford taking the Neurum Road exit on your left. Follow this road for approximately 3 kilometres to the Woodford Correctional Centre on the right hand side of the road.

A visitor transport service is available for visitors to the Woodford Correctional Centre. The service is free of charge, however visitors must be approved to visit the centre prior to using this service.

Maryborough Correctional Centre

Maryborough Correctional Centre is located approximately 7 kilometres north of Maryborough.

If travelling north along the Bruce Highway, continue past the Caltex Service Station (on right), under the overhead railway bridge, for 1.3 km, then turn left into Rampton Road. Follow this road approximately one kilometre to Stein Road and the centre.

If travelling south along the Bruce Highway, continue past the turn off for Aldershot approximately 650 metres and take the next right turn in Rampton Road. Follow this road one kilometre to Stein Road and the centre.

There are also bus services available at no cost to selected visits sessions at the centre. This service runs from Hervey Bay and Maryborough. If you require a seat on the bus you must book. Please contact Hinter-Coast Transport directly on 1300 658 971.

Capricornia Correctional Centre

Capricornia Correctional Centre is located on the Bruce Highway approximately 13 kilometres north of the Yeppoon turn off.

  • Turn left at the blue sign into Etna Creek Road;
  • Turn left into Road One;
  • Turn left at the 'Warning sign', and follow the road to the Visitor Car Park; and
  • Attend the Visit Reception building.

Paradise Coaches operates a free service for visitors in the Rockhampton area to and from the centre on Saturday and Sunday only. Travel is by booking ONLY on (07) 49 331 127 or 1300 300 156.

St. Vincent Buses run a free service for visitors on the first and third Sunday of the month from Mackay, to and from the centre. Travel is by booking ONLY on 0429 894 277.

Palen Creek Correctional Centre

Palen Creek Correctional Centre is located on Mt Lindesay Highway, Palen Creek.

From Brisbane:

Either - take Exit 11 and continue onto Mains Road, Calamvale Road to Sunnybank Hills. At the T junction, turn right onto Compton Road and then turn left onto Beaudesert Road. Continue on the Mt Lindesay Highway to Brisbane Street, Beaudesert.

At the main set of lights in Beaudesert turn right and continue on Telemon Street which then becomes Mt Lindesay Highway (13). Continue on this road to the centre (approximately 35-40 minutes).

From the Gold Coast or Beenleigh:

Follow the signs to Beaudesert and at the main set of lights, go through the intersection, passing RT Edwards and Crazy Clarks (on your right), and continue on this road which becomes Mt Lindesay Highway (Highway No 13). The prison is approximately 35-40 minutes from Beaudesert.

Travel through Rathdowney (20-25 minutes) and keep following the highway. There are six 'Palen Creek' crossings before the centre.

After the sixth crossing, the centre is on the left.

OR you can continue on M3 (Gold Coast) taking the Ipswich Motorway Exit - (right lanes). After the toll this highway joins up with the Ipswich Motorway. Stay in the left lane and take the Beaudesert, Mt Lindesay Highway exit. Follow the highway to Beaudesert and follow directions as above.

On arrival at the centre, parking is available in the car park at the top of the hill.

Townsville Correctional Complex

The high security, men's and women's facility is located at the end of Dwyer Street, Stuart. Follow Stuart Drive towards Charters Towers. Turn left into Southwood Road and then right into Dwyer Street (the Stuart State School is on the corner).

The low security, Male Farm Complex is located approximately ten kilometres south of Townsville just off the Bruce Highway. Turn right off the highway at the Woongarra Crematorium.

North Queensland Prisoner Aid Society provide a bus service to weekend visits. This service is free of charge.

The service runs on Saturdays with a morning, lunchtime and afternoon service to the high security facilities and on Sundays with one morning service to the high security facility. The service also provides transport to the low security, Male Farm Complex facility in the afternoons.

Bookings can be made by calling 07 4772 3330 on Wednesdays 9.30am - 12noon, on Thursdays 9.30am - 12noon and on Fridays 10am - 3pm. The service provides a pick up and drop off service from any nominated address.
