Getting there by car or public transport

The following centres have provided directions on getting to the centre and/or information on using public transport.

Darling Downs Correctional Centre

Hubbards Coaches operates a service to and from the centre on Saturday only. Travel is by booking ONLY on (07) 4630 7074.

Lotus Glen Correctional Centre

The Lotus Glen Correctional Centre is located 14kms outside Mareeba.

From Cairns, travel along the Captain Cook Highway to Smithfield, and then another 61kms along the Kennedy Highway from Smithfield to Mareeba.

There are two ways to reach the centre from Mareeba - either take the Kennedy Highway to Walkamin, turn right into Hansen Road and drive 6kms to the farm. The centre is located a further 4.8kms away along Chettle Road. You can also travel from Mareeba along Dimbulah Road for 16kms, turn left into Chettle Road and follow the signs.

Numinbah Correctional Centre

Take Exit 69 (the Surfers Paradise/Nerang North exit) off the Pacific Motorway and turn right at the Price Street intersection (this road will become Nerang-Murwillumbah Road). Travel along this road for about 30kms, following the signs to Natural Bridge. Drive through the Numinbah township, cross the narrow bridge over Nixon's Creek, and turn right into the centre. The men's unit is located on the right and the women's unit on the left.

The centre also provides a prison transport service for visitors. Bookings are essential on (07) 3357 5888. The service runs on alternate Saturdays and Sundays, departing from Roma Street in Brisbane at 9am, arriving at Numinbah at 11am and departing at 3pm. Bookings for transport are only taking Mon - Fri 10.00 am to 12 noon and 1.00 pm to 3.00 pm excluding public holidays. This is a voluntary service and donations are gratefully accepted.

Woodford Correctional Centre

The prison transport services runs weekly bus services from the Brisbane Transit Centre and from Caloundra to the centre.

For further information, contact the group in Brisbane on (07) 3357 5888 between 9am and 3pm, Monday to Thursday, and 9am and 1.30pm on Friday. For information on the Caloundra service, contact the Suncoast Care Group on (07) 5438 7226 between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Thursday, and 9am and 12 noon on Friday.
