Prisoner employment policy and action plan 2008-2011

17 September 2008

The Prisoner Employment Policy and Action Plan 2008-2011 (PDF 544KB) was developed as part of the Innovative Prison Industries Project and is a statement about how Queensland Corrective Services provides prisoners with "real world" employment and training opportunities to increase a prisoner's reintegration prospects post-release and to meet the demands of Queensland's job market.

The Prisoner Employment Policy and Action Plan 2008-2011 incorporates the new prison industries model based on the operation of the 12-hour working day, which is currently being rolled out across correctional facilities in Queensland.

The Prisoner Employment Policy and Action Plan 2008-2011 will revitalise prison industries and maximise the delivery of a prison industries program that benefits prisoners, industry and the community. Under the Prisoner Employment Policy, opportunities and partnerships with the private sector will be actively sought that maximize both the general and specific skill acquisition of prisoners to improve a prisoner's prospects of employment on release and reduce their likelihood of returning to custody.
