A 42-year-old Banyo woman will face the Brisbane Magistrates Court on 29 October after she was caught allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs into the Brisbane Correctional Centre yesterday <8 October>.
Corrective Services Minister Neil Roberts said the woman was searched after arriving to visit a 28-year-old male prisoner.
"A parcel of five subutex tablets - a synthetic form of heroin - was found hidden in the woman's bra," Mr Roberts said.
"She was charged with supplying a dangerous drug into a correctional facility, and is now facing possible jail time," he said.
"This discovery demonstrates to all Queenslanders that smuggling drugs or other contraband into prisons is simply not worth the risk.
"Queensland's state-of-the-art prisons use a multi-layered combination of intelligence gathering and electronic detection to protect security and uphold community safety.
"Searches of our correctional centres are conducted on a reg ular basis and include daily searches of accommodation, prisoner cells and common areas.
"The use of cutting edge technology, along with the hard work and diligence of our correctional centre staff, means we are detecting contraband items before they make it inside."
