Queensland Corrective Services is investigating an attempt to smuggle a quantity of what is thought to be buprenorphine into Woodford Correctional Centre in the mail.
Officers intercepted a letter yesterday and a search revealed a clip seal bag containing white powder glued to the middle of a brochure
Corrective Services Minister Neil Roberts warned that people caught attempting to smuggle contraband into a correctional centre faced prosecution and possible jail time.
"We use a combination of intelligence, electronic security measures, drug dogs and electronic testing in Queensland prisons," Mr Roberts said.
"The message is simple - anyone attempting to smuggle drugs or other contraband into prisons faces the prospect of being jailed."
Mr Roberts also congratulated staff at the correctional centre on their diligence and excellent work.
Searches in correctional centres are conducted on a regular basis and include daily searches o f accommodation, prisoner cells and common areas.
If prisoners are detected with contraband items in their possession they may be subject to criminal charges or a disciplinary proceeding including a loss of privileges, contact visits and prison employment, as well as restricted movement.
