The Freedom of Information Act 1992 (Qld) (FOI Act) confers a legal right of access to documents held by Queensland state and local government agencies. This includes Queensland Corrective Services (QCS).
Access is subject to some exemptions and exclusions, which are contained in the FOI Act itself.
A person can also apply to have agency documents which concern their personal affairs amended if the documents contain information which is inaccurate, incomplete, out-of-date or misleading.
Freedom of Information applications to QCS are dealt with by the Freedom of Information & Privacy Unit (FOI Unit), which is located within the Legal Services Branch under the business unit Ministerial & Executive Services Directorate.
The Queensland Government is improving the way the community can access information. For further information follow this link to the Right to Information website.
