Welcome to the Judicial Liaison Unit
The Judicial Liaison Unit is part of the Office of the Commissioner and works in concert with internal colleagues to ensure:
- Gathering, analysis and provision of accurate, current and relevant data that enables
the Judiciary and Magistracy to remain current and informed about sentencing and
other strategic correctional issues at local, regional and state-wide levels;
- Co-ordinates provision of agreements with DPP and LAQ for the provision of services
to offenders in correctional centres;
- Coordination of the provision of feedback from the Judiciary and Magistracy regarding
service levels;
- Open lines of communication between the executive management of Corrective Services
and fellow criminal justice partners including Legal Aid Queensland, Law Society
Queensland, Director of Public Prosecutions and Queensland Police Service; and
- Information dissemination regarding relevant legislative, policy and procedural
changes that will impact on the dispensing of justice through the courts.

The Unit also engages in activities designed to:
- Promote awareness of the strategic direction of DCS and current Commission Initiatives;
- Provide the Judiciary and the Magistracy with the tools to make informed decisions
regarding sentencing and community order options that benefit both the offender
and the wider community;
- Provide information and publications designed to assist legal practitioners to better
advise their client base and assist the courts;
- Assist with training packs for front line court staff
- Lead and promote discussion about matters pertinent to both Corrective Services
core business and the business of the Courts; and
- Provides a forum for robust engagement regarding issues of concern.
